Cava Faustino, the best cava in terms of price-quality ratio according to the OCU
Monday, December 20th 2021The Spanish Consumers’ and Users’ Organisation (OCU) has undertaken a study of 24 sparkling white wines from the top brands in the DO Cava wine-growing region. Faustino Brut Reserva took the top spot in this analysis, receiving an overall score of 84 points.
This delicious cava costs an average of 6.91 euros per bottle. Average alcohol content: 11.0 % Sugar content: 9.1 g/l. During the tasting, the expert sommeliers who compiled the ranking noted this cava’s “straw yellow colour with shades of gold, abundant medium-sized bubbles, an aroma of dried fruit with notes of white fruits and fermentation; overall a balanced wine that persists well in the mouth”.
The results of the analysis take into consideration the wine’s alcohol, sugar, volatile acid, total acid and preservative (such as sulfites) content, in addition to that of other additives like ascorbic and sorbic acids, which were not detected in this cava. As part of this initial analysis, a panel of expert sommeliers compiled a list of the best cavas which, according to their judgement, boast the best price-quality ratio, all of which can be purchased for less than 7 euros.
Their conclusion was that Cava Faustino was worthy of being named the wine with the best relationship between price and quality. The OCU recommends: “once at home, store it in a cool, dry and dark place. Cavas must be chilled plenty of time in advance: the optimal temperature is 8 C, meaning that you must place the bottle in the refrigerator at least 4 hours before drinking. Then, once at the table, keep it cool by placing it in a bucket of ice and water”.
