Bodegas Faustino launches new wines inspired by Legado Bodegas Faustino, its new wine tourism project

The concept behind the Legado wines honours the history of the Martínez Zabala family, who explain that “receiving a legacy of this nature entails a profound responsibility that demands absolute loyalty, with the understanding that its essence must be protected”.

Legado Faustino Blanco and Legado Faustino Crianza look at Rioja’s winemaking heritage from a contemporary perspective and incorporate some of the region’s most distinctive grape varieties: White Tempranillo and Maturana.

Rare grape varieties in Rioja

Legado Faustino Blanco 2025 is made from Viura, Chardonnay and White Tempranillo grapes sourced from low-yielding plots in the highest areas of Rioja Alavesa. Harvesting takes place at night to preserve the grapes’ freshness and potential. White Tempranillo is a little-known variety in Rioja, chosen for this wine for its aromatic intensity, structure and acidity.

The distinguishing feature of Legado Faustino Crianza 2021 is Maturana, a red grape variety native and exclusive to Rioja, whose cultivation remains very limited. The new wine is made from 80% Tempranillo and 20% Maturana and is aged for 12 months in American and French oak barrels.

The labels of both wines feature the distinctive Legado Bodegas Faustino building, developed in collaboration with Foster + Partners in Oyón. Conceived as a space where architecture, sustainability, wine and gastronomy come together, the project has already received some of the wine world's most notable international accolades, including the Best Of Wine Tourism International 2026, the highest recognition awarded by the Great Wine Capitals network; the People’s Choice Award 2026, granted by the international public; and the Winery of the Year recognition at the Archello Awards 2025, which highlighted the building’s architectural excellence and its integration into the surrounding landscape.
