Ten wines from the Faustino Group get 90+ points in the 2018 edition of the Peñín Guide to Spanish Wine
Monday, September 11th 2017The results of the tastings place some iconic Bodegas Faustino, Bodegas Campillo and Bodegas Portia wines in the Excellent Wine category (90-94 points)
Grupo Faustino is to be congratulated after ten of its wines were awarded 90 points and up (i.e. they fall into the Excellent Wine (90-94) category) in the Guía Peñín de los Vinos de España 2018. According to the Peñín Guide, the category of Exceptional Wine (95-100) is for wine that “stands out among those of its kind, vintage and typicity. Extremely impresses all the senses. Complex, full of olfactory and gustatory notes produced by the ensemble of soil, variety, vinification and ageing. It is elegant and out of the ordinary; far from commercial standards and, in some cases, unknown to the general public.” An Excellent Wine (90-94) is “a wine with the same values as the aforementioned, but with less relief and clarity of nuances.”
The Peñín Guide is the most complete manual of Spanish wines in the world. Its professionals taste more than 11,500 wines a year, making the Peñín Guide to Spanish Wine one of the most consulted manuals by both amateurs and wine professionals alike. Founded by the wine critic José Peñín, the Peñín Guide boasts a team of young, dynamic people. In the front line are four tasters: Carlos González (director of the Peñín Guide), Javier Luengo (head of Publishing), Alberto Ruffoni and Juan Luis Morales (head of the Winetasting School). All of them are in charge of tasting more than 11,500 wines a year.
